Holidays are enjoyable for many reasons, but one problem many international flyers run into is using too much mobile data.Depending on the provider, roaming charges can end up costing tourists a small fortune and you may not discover this until it is too late.

Roaming charges in the EU for UK travellers are back with a bang since Brexit. Almost all the big mobile phone companies, including EE, Sky Mobile, Three and Vodafone, giffgaff and Tesco Mobile, have reintroduced EU roaming charges.Luckily, a seasoned jet-setter has shared a hack for anyone who is "travelling across continents" but doesn't want to keep paying for a new sim card, or change phone numbers.

Travel influencer Éadoin Fitzmaurice took to TikTok to share her insight with her 49,000 followers In the clip posted to her @eadaoinfitzmaurice profile. "People have been asking how we have been getting data when we are in Mexico and this is how it is a really really really useful trip for anyone travelling across continents," she said. She explained that she has downloaded an app called MobiMatter, which sells electronic sims to phone users, which they can download to give them a full payment plan. She explained: "It's an e-sim so you don't actually have to buy a sim card and you can keep your number, so this app has loads of different countries across the world and loads of different data plans you can choose from and we absolutely love it and it's fantastic."The MobiMatter app is available for download on both Android and Apple devices.

But before purchasing any of their plans, the service recommends checking that your device is compatible with an e-sim.A quick way to check if your phone supports e-SIM is:iPhone: Go Settings -> Cellular (or Mobile Data).
