Former France rugby union star Christophe Dominici has passed away 'suddenly' at the age of 48. The 67-times capped winger was a star of the 1999 Rugby World Cup, and famously scored the try which beat New Zealand in the semi-final of the tournament, in which the French lost to Australia in the final.

Dominici also played in the 2003 tournament, where he scored four tries and was yellow carded for tripping England's Jason Robinson in the semi-final.

A year later he suffered a nightmare in the 2004 Six Nations when dropped the ball having crossed the try-line against Italy.

He played all of his top level club rugby for Stade Francais, and also coached the team for a year after his retirement in 2008.
