Christmas rules could be torn up in Scotland as it emerged that nine cases of a new coronavirus strain had been confirmed north of the border.
Nicola Sturgeon said there was a case for tightening the rules ahead of a call with Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove and other devolved leaders on Tuesday.
And she warned that Scotland could follow its own path if necessary. Current plans allowing people from up to three households to mix indoors between December 23 and December 27 have been under scrutiny due to rising cases and the discovery of a new variant, believed to be behind the rapid spread of coronavirus in London and southern England.
