Chris Sutton hopes the BBC find a resolution to the “messy” situation after the Match of the Day mutiny that also had an impact on his 606 radio phone-in alongside Robbie Savage.

The Record Sport columnist and former Celtic hero spoke out in the wake of the meltdown at the public broadcaster as football shows were decimated over the Gary Lineker tweet storm.

The 62-year-old former England striker was pulled off air following his anti-Government social media stance which triggered chaos at BBC HQ.

Match of the Day aired on Saturday night but without pundits or commentary and lasted just 20 minutes and the astonishing fallout saw earlier scheduled shows Football Focus, Final Score and radio coverage pulled as a string of pundits backed Lineker.
