The Chorlton Community Land Trust (CLT) is in talks with Co-op Funeral care, who own the building, with plans to create an Altrincham Market-style offering.
The building, at one stage the Gaumont Cinema, is 100 years old and has been at risk of demolition, but the group hopes to preserve and redevelop the space.
