A chip shop offering a £1 children’s meal helping families through the summer holidays say hundreds of young people have taken up the offer so far.
Mel's Chippy in Carmarthenshire, Wales, has been selling the £1 meals since the start of the school holidays, which consists of a main meal, a portion of chips, a drink and a portion of fruit.
The chip shop has now sold more than 320 of the meals, which are served between 12pm-3pm, since July 25. Owners Sarah and Mel Lewis said they have been able to continue to offer the meals thanks to donations from customers and local businesses. We never expected the take-up to be so crazy. This is an area with a higher than average amount of families whose little ones receive free school meals. "So those six weeks off can be really tough on those mums and dads who might be having a hard time making ends meet.
