A child has died following an incident at a swimming pool in Majorca. The six-year-old was rushed to hospital in a “critical” state from a hotel in the resort of Sa Coma on Thursday after being treated at the poolside by emergency responders.
He lost his fight for life on Sunday afternoon at the Son Espases Hospital in the island capital Palma. The unnamed child is reported locally to be from Northern Ireland.
Initially it had been thought the pool incident occurred on Sunday, but Belfast Live reports well-placed sources confirmed the youngster had been in hospital intensive care unit for three days prior to his death.
Civil Guard officers rushed to the scene along with local police but another force - Spain’s National Police - will now be asked to carry out an investigation into what happened.
