More than one million parents are set to miss out on weekly payments of £25.60 if they do not update their Child Benefit calm before the end of this month.
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has issued more than 1.4 million letters to families reminding them that if their teenager is continuing in further education or training, they need to extend their claim before August 31.
The letters include a QR code which, when scanned, directs parents straight to the G OV.UK website to enable them to update their claim quickly and easily online.
Child Benefit is worth up to £1,331 a year for the first or only child, and up to £881 a year for each additional child. Payments will automatically stop on August 31 on or after the child has turned 16 unless parents renew their claim where their child is continuing in education.
