Jazz legend Chick Corea has died at the age of 79. The news was shared on a tribute posted to the musician's Facebook page this evening.
His family told fans he passed away on February 9 of a rare form of cancer that was only discovered very recently. In the 1960s Corea established himself as an A-list painist working with the likes of Herbie Mann and Stan Getz.
He then joined Miles Davies' band before forming his own group, Return to Forever, which participated in the birth of jazz fusion.
His renowned compositions including Spain, 500 Miles High and Widows ae widely considered Jazz standards. Corea won 23 Grammy Awards in his five decade spanning career and was nominated over 60 times.
