Chelsea boss Frank Lampard and coach Jody Morris are looking to snap up Max Bird from Derby this summer. The 19-year-old was handed his debut by the ex-England midfielder last season after impressing in training.
Since then, Bird has made himself an integral part of Phillip Cocu’s side after starting 12 of the last 13 matches for the Rams.
And it has led to interest in Lampard, now in charge of Chelsea. The Englishman had just one year of managerial experience before taking on the full-time role at the Blues.
It comes after leading Derby to the play-off final in the Championship, where they were beaten by Aston Villa. Nevertheless, Bird had done more than enough to impress Lampard enough to take an interest at Chelsea.
