Zack Sharf Digital News Director “Charlie’s Angels” actors and longtime friends Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu reunited with Demi Moore in a video interview with Vanity Fair to champion Moore’s Oscar-nominated performance in “The Substance.” Moore memorably faced off against the trio as a villainous former Angel named Madison Lee in 2003’s “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.” The Vanity Fair video was the first time all four actors reunited since Liu’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2019. “I think I can speak for all of us—we are so proud of you,” Liu told Moore. “This performance, you’ve always had it in you and in all of the work that you’ve done.
There’s so much vulnerability in the strength that you are able to put on camera.” “That moment of you taking the makeup off, to reveal the psychological toll of this kind of unattainable pressure from society of what beauty is and what aging is or what is commercial,” she continued. “It was done in a way where you really captured that rawness: that feeling of being insecure but also comfortable with yourself, but then realizing that other people aren’t comfortable with yourself.” Moore won a Golden Globe for her performance as Elizabeth Sparkle in “The Substance,” which centers on a once-popular actor and TV fitness icon who decides to inject herself with an experimental serum in order to prevent her star from further fading.
In addition to her Oscar nomination for best actress, Moore has also received noms from the Critics Choice Awards, BAFTAs and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
She’s widely viewed as a potential frontrunner for the Academy Award. “All women, we are conditioned to be objectified—period,” Diaz told Moore.
