Charity boss calls on everyone to look out for elderly neighbours during predicted hot spell

A charity that cares for older adults across Renfrewshire has urged people to look out for their vulnerable neighbours as the heatwave hits the area.Temperatures are set to rocket tomorrow and Tuesday, with predictions the mercury could hit 29°C on Tuesday.Cassie Forbes, CEO of Roar - Connections for Life, said although the area isn’t seeing the same heatwave as other parts of the country, where a red weather warning is in place, people still needed to take care and look out for each other.She said: “We have a list of around 900 service users and although we will be making extra calls, we won’t be able to get around everyone. Sign up to our newsletters here. “We are urging family, friends and neighbours to check in on someone they think might be vulnerable.“Older adults aren’t great at staying hydrated and often the hot weather makes you lose your appetite.“We’d encourage people to make sure they drink lots of water and eat regularly.“Stay indoors with the curtains closed - but windows open - to make the most of any cool breeze.“Most of our classes are back and will be running on Monday and Tuesday and we plan to hand out lots of bottles of water at them.”The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for most of southern Scotland.Download the FREE Renfrewshire Live app now for all the latest news, features and sport in your area.
