Scots passengers were hit by EasyJet chaos after the airline wrongly sent emails and text messages to travellers telling them their flights had been cancelled. The major blip sparked widespread panic with holidaymakers fearing their plane was going nowhere before being told an hour later that a mistake had been made.

Scots flights leaving from Edinburgh to Bristol, Glasgow to London Gatwick and London Stansted to Glasgow, were among those caught up in drama.

Furious passengers blasted the company on social media and said that the original message suggested flights were no longer happening 'due to the evolving events in Israel.' This led some on a mad dash to rebook alternative routes - with the second email coming too late, The Mirror reports.Airline chiefs have now released a statement confirming their mistake.

A spokesperson blamed a technical error and the company said: “EasyJet can confirm that unfortunately, on 28 April, some customers received an incorrect notification stating that their flight on 30 April was cancelled.“This was due to a technical error and all customers were quickly sent updated messages with a confirmation their flight is operating as normal.
