Telegraph Sport can reveal. BT Sport and Sky are understood to have put in bids on Tuesday just as Channel 4 were poised to seal the deal, causing a last-minute hold-up.

But Indian broadcaster Star Sports, who hold the global rights, chose to go with Channel 4 last night and a deal was finalised this morning.

The four Test matches will be shown on Channel 4 from 4am on Friday and also on its All 4 on-demand digital service. A separate deal for the white-ball series, which includes five Twenty20s and three ODIs, is yet to be finalised but is also expected to be shown by Channel 4.
