The chance of a full lockdown ease on June 21 is ‘close to nil’ amid rise of Indian Covid variant, a government adviser has claimed.
The decision on whether the UK should return to 'normal' and drop all restrictions could now be delayed after infection rates have increased in almost 60% of England's local authority areas.
Of the 315 local areas in England, 185 (59%) saw a rise in rates, 119 (38%) saw a fall and 11 were unchanged as of May 10, according to the most recent data available.
While Downing Street has refused to confirm whether the full lockdown will be fully eased - political experts said government advisers have told them "not everything set out for June" will go ahead.
