More than a third of Indian coronavirus variant cases identified in a new study in England were found in people aged between 16 and 29.
That group was followed by those aged 30-39 and 40-49, while more than half of those infected with the variant were men and almost two-thirds came from two regions: the North West and London.
All but 30 Indian variant cases included in the study involved people with a history of travel. The new figures were revealed in a Public Health England (PHE) study which looked at the efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines against the Indian variant of concern, formally known as B.1.617.2.
Of the 12,675 sequenced cases included in the study, which took place between April 5 and May 16, 1,054 involved the Indian variant.
