The biggest upset of the Oscars sparked a furious internet backlash as Chadwick Boseman lost out to Anthony Hopkins for the Best Actor award.

The 2021 award ceremony came to an abrupt end on Sunday night as the hotly tipped star Chadwick Boseman missed out on the top award.

Many had expected the late actor Chadwick – who died last year aged 43 – would win a posthumous Best Actor award for his role in drama Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

But he lost out to Sir Anthony Hopkins who won the award for his turn in The Father. Viewers of the awards show were less than impressed with the final result and took to social media to vent their fury.
