Sport and showbiz stars have been blasted for buying dogs with their ears cropped. England aces Jesse Lingard and James Maddison and Love Island champ Jack Fincham are among proud owners of the mutilated pets.

The practice is said to give breeds like dobermans a more ferocious look. Clipping is illegal here but allowed in the US and parts of Europe.

There is no suggestion any of the celebs’ dogs’s ears were cut in the UK. The RSPCA has seen a big increase in cases of clipped dogs – and says images shared by owners on social media are making the look more popular.

Love Island’s Jack, 26, got into a row with fans after posting photos of Elvis – a clipped cane corso he said he bought from Russia – to his two million Instagram followers.
