The cause of death of a 'fit and healthy' mum who had just given birth has now emerged. First-time mum, Mellodie-Ocean Jarman reported feeling faint and dizzy while on her way to a pregnancy check-up on January 31.
After being told by a doctor she was 'low on iron' she was sent home from the clinic with medication and antibiotics. At home the following day, the 19-year-old from Atherton, Wigan, experienced breathing difficulties and problems being able to see, and collapsed in her mother's arms.
Her condition deteriorated as she was rushed to the Royal Bolton Hospital. At the hospital, in the early hours of Sunday (February 2) an emergency C-section was carried out and Mellodie gave birth to Athena-Pearl seven weeks premature.
Tragically, new mum Mellodie was sadly pronounced dead just over an hour later. Later that afternoon, baby Athena had begun to deteriorate and sadly died in her mother’s arms just before 6.30pm.
