Cat impaled on fence in Edinburgh put to sleep despite desperate efforts to save it

A cat sadly had to be put down after it became impaled on a fence in Edinburgh despite desperate efforts to save it. The cat was found stuck on a spike from a fence by a neighbour in Comely Bank who tried to comfort the pet while the Scottish SPCA rushed to the scene on Monday afternoon.

Marie-Claire Longden, who came to the rescue, recognised the cat as local to Comely Bank Street as she'd seen it many times before in the street's communal garden.

She alerted the SSPCA to the emergency immediately.The neighbour told the Record that one spike had gone through the cat's right, back leg.

She waited with the cat and wrapped it in a blanket until the SSPCA arrived.Photos showed several rusty poles from a fence vertically poking out that appear to have become broken.Marie-Claire said in a post: "Urgent: Can everyone share this photo.
