Casualty airlifted to hospital after 'serious collision' which closed Snake Pass for hours

A casualty has been airlifted to hospital following a 'serious' crash on Snake Pass. Emergency services were called to the bypass, which runs between Glossop and Sheffield at around 1pm this afternoon (3 June) after reports of a crash.

The road was closed both ways between Hurst Road near the Royal Oak Inn and the A6013 at Ladybower Reservoir for a number of hours as accident investigators carried out their enquiries. READ MORE:Metrolink services stopped in Manchester city centre after 'collision' In an update, Glossop Mountain Rescue said they were called to the scene to assist Northwest Ambulance Service with the 'difficult extraction of a casualty' at around 1.30pm. "Team members arrived at the scene where the casualty was already being treated for their injuries by NWAS paramedics and air ambulance crew," they said in a post on Facebook. "The casualty was carried by the team to the air ambulance, who then transferred the casualty to hospital.

The team stood down at 15.05." No further details about the person's condition have been released. Reports on social media suggested that the crash may have involved a motorcyclist.

In a post on Twitter, Derbyshire Police said: "The A57 Snake Pass is currently closed between Glossop and The Snake Inn at Bamford due to a serious collision.
