Loose Women legend Carol McGiffin has spoken out on the ongoing drama at ITV - describing the atmosphere of the "ITV Daytime Family" as “dysfunctional”.
The 63-year-old veteran presenter hasn’t held back in the aftermath of Philip Schofield’s resignation and subsequent admission of a relationship with a young staff member, adding to the woes of ITV bosses - who now face a grilling from MPs over claims of a coverup.
While the spotlight has shifted slightly from This Morning to the channel in general, Carol is just one of a number of celebrities to speak out publicly either in support - or to criticise - ITV. “They go on about the ‘ITV Daytime Family’ being cosy best mates, all caring and kind, but in my opinion it’s about as dysfunctional as they come,” she wrote in her column for Best magazine.
She went on to describe a “cut-throat, competitive and ruthless” culture, adding, “and as soon as your face doesn’t fit any more, or you disagree with their narrative, you’re out the door.” Carol has spent more than two decades working at the channel, including stints reviewing the newspapers on This Morning.
