Car crashes into Asda supermarket in Blantyre as staff rush to aid driver

A car has crashed into Asda supermarket in Blantyre Emergency services rushed to the Asda Superstore on Glasgow Road, Blantyre at around 10.50am on Wednesday, January 26.

Witnesses reported seeing staff with a defibrillator as the driver received treatment from paramedics at the scene.One local said that she was told about what had happened shortly before she had arrived: "I was there just after it happened."The police were there, the fire brigade were just arriving and the ambulance had not arrived."I was told that the gentleman in the car got his foot stuck under a pedal."He was in an ambulance outside when I left."An Asda spokesperson said: ‘’A small section of our store has been closed following a collision earlier this afternoon."At around 11am the emergency service workers were called following quick action by colleagues and customers at our Blantyre store, and we would like to thank them for their efforts to ensure the safety of the parties involved in the collision."A small number of our checkouts remain closed and we would like to thank customers for their understanding whilst we work to get these back up and running.’’A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to a one vehicle road crash Glasgow Road, Blantyre at 10.50am on Wednesday, January 26."We assisted the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at the scene."There do not appear to be any serious injuries."The SFRS have been contacted for comment.Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter here .
