Two would-be drug smugglers who flew halfway around the world after being promised free holidays are behind bars. Alisha Tworuschka, a mother-of-two, and Jacqueline Desorcy arrived in Manchester after travelling from their homes in Canada.

The pair both had suitcases containing more than 70 kilos of cannabis. After arriving in Manchester, ‘naive’ Tworuschka had left the bags containing the drugs with her pal Desorcy as she made her way through customs.

But she returned after an announcement was made over the PA system in the terminal. “Perhaps some people would be out of the building very quickly, but she wasn’t,” Tworuschka’s lawyer said.

The pair, both 29, were both jailed for a year and 10 months. READ MORE: Manchester Airport video family lawyer issues major update and details their version of events Manchester Crown Court heard the two women landed in Manchester on May 10, where they were spotted by Border Force officers.
