Campaigners fighting to save Lanarkshire libraries welcome 'phenomenal' news that services will remain

Campaigners who handed a petition with 8500 signatures over to council leader Joe Fagan on Tuesday have welcomed the news that Cambuslang Library will remain open for the next two years .Residents, parents and children have been fighting to prevent the local authority withdrawing services and shutting library facilities in Cambuslang, Halfway and Blantyre, which they say are vital to local communities.Tracy Macrury of Save Our Libraries campaign has been at the forefront of the campaign to retain the services, and she was at the council’s headquarters in Hamilton on tuesday to present the petition to councillor Fagan, and described the revisited decision as "phenomenal".Tracy, 42, a mum-of-two who lives in Newton, said: “We have around 8500 signatures and we were hoping to make them [council] realise the strength of feeling on this.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
