Cambuslang Rugby Club boss has 'unfinished business' as he targets promotion

Gavin Blackburn has “unfinished business” at Cambuslang Rugby Club and reckons they have the potential to be challenging at a higher level.Blackburn is ambitious, having signed a two-year deal at the club, and he feels they should be competing at the top end of West Division 1, far from being relegated to West 2, as they were at the end of last season.He originally took over at Cambuslang in 2022, after Alex Donaghy was sacked, but that ignited a desire to coach at a higher level and Blackburn left for Dumfries Saints in September of that year.That didn’t work out the way Blackburn hoped, and he’s back at Langlea Road, looking to propel them to success when the league season starts in September.He said: “I feel that it’s unfinished business.“It’s not about righting the wrongs, but starting off where I should have continued last year.“We need to get out of West Division 2 – we’re not a West Division 2 club.“I think the long-term aim over the next couple of seasons is to be very competitive at the top end of West 1.“It’s an important season and it won’t be easy.“Teams in West Division 2 may not be of a particularly great rugby-playing standard, but what they will be is physical, and they will want to play a certain way.“We need to have our standards above that, we have to not get drawn into that, and make sure we’re performing with the same work ethic and standards every week.“I’m not just saying this, but there is massive potential there.“Although it’s a small squad, it’s a committed squad and the aim is to get out of West Division 2 this year, and competing in West Division 1.”Blackburn also says this is probably his last coaching venture, and wants to make the most of it.“I’m getting to the stage where I’ve been in the
