St Johnstone ’s Euro dream came to an explosive end with a 2-0 defeat in Perth. Saints finished the game with nine men after sub David Wotherspoon was red carded for elbowing Florian Flecker just 60 seconds after coming off the bench and shortly after Husein Balic had given the Austrians a 72nd minute lead.
Shaun Rooney followed Wotherspoon up the tunnel with six minutes to go after hauling down Balic with Marko Raguz slotting home the spot kick to end any hopes of a Europa Conference League group stage spot for Davidson’s men.
But the McDiarmid Park boss - who admitted Wotherspoon’s red card killed his side - was seething with his opposite number who had dubbed Saints “disgusting to play against” last week.The duo were seen at loggerheads.
