Front line medical staff in the A&E department of Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH) in Larbert, Stirlingshire, told an independent review they were often reduced to tears and so terrified of victimisation that medical mistakes in patient care were not reported.The Culture and Governance Review was triggered last December after the Royal College of Nursing and the Unison union raised staff allegations that management in NHS Forth Valley “colluded in and condoned” high levels of “bullying and harassment” in the A&E team.
Nurses and doctors told the independent review team of former NHS executives that they were “battle-weary” and many senior staff had resigned.
