The Portuguese playmaker scored the only goal of the game when he pounced on a spilled shot in the box and fired in from a tight angle to give his side another precious three points.

Fernandes, who missed a crucial penalty in the same fixture last season, was goaded by the travelling support throughout the match, but responded in style with an impressive performance. Speaking after the game, he was asked about the celebration and the feisty reception he got from the travelling supporters. "Obviously they probably don't like to play against me, but it is what it is, it's football," he told MUTV. "I'm OK with that.
