Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes (born 8 September 1994) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and the Portugal national team as a midfielder. Fernandes started his career at Serie B side Novara Calcio and soon featured for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A.

In 2017, he signed with Sporting CP where he established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. He was named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the latter season, he also helped Sporting win the Taça de Portugal. A senior international since 2017, Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Bruno Fernandes has revealed he 'cried with happiness' when he heard Manchester United wanted to sign him - after fearing his chance of a dream move had gone.

Fernandes became an instant hit at United after his £48million transfer from Sporting Lisbon in January, having helped the Red Devils to an 11-game unbeaten run before the season was halted by coronavirus.

The Portugal midfielder had been linked with a move to the Premier League last summer, but neither United nor Tottenham were ready to meet Sporting's £75m valuation.

And the 25-year-old has revealed he thought his dream of playing in English football's top flight might never come to fruition. "You know, I will say the truth that I was scared," Fernandes said on Instagram
