Brittney Griner's Defense Team Files Appeal

Brittney Griner‘s defense team has officially filed an appeal of her conviction. The 31-year-old WNBA player is a center for the Phoenix Mercury and a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

State Department declared Brittney to be “wrongfully detained,” before she was convicted. On Saturday, The Moscow Times reported Russia has officially acknowledged it seeks convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout to be a part of an exchange deal.

He is a Russian arms dealer who is serving a 25-year sentence in the U.S. and has earned the nickname the “Merchant of Death.” President Joe Biden made a statement shortly after Brittney was convicted on August 4.
