VE Day on 8 May marked Germany's unconditional surrender in 1945, and VJ Day on 15 August commemorated Japan’s surrender, effectively ending the war.
Although no specific summer weekend has been picked for the four-day event, officials are expected to announce the date soon.
As we have around 70,000 WWII veterans still with us, next year's event could provide them with a heartfelt moment of tribute.The idea of an extended bank holiday has received a thumbs-up from veterans.
