Britain's Got Talent director Dean Jones has sadly died at the age of 56. The behind the scenes star, who worked on a number of other TV shows too and was director of production at Fremantle UK during the height of his career, passed away after being diagnosed with cancer.

The news was announced by fellow colleagues, as Fremantle CEO Amelia Brown was one of the first to pay tribute. "Dean Jones was someone that everyone in our industry should aspire to be like," she shared. "He was a master of our industry as well as a mentor, a supporter and a huge part of all our lives at Fremantle. "He was effortless in what he did and achieved more in his day to day than anyone else I know in TV," Amelia continued. "He was the most intelligent and funny man, and he was the backbone to the shows that shaped our cultural landscape in entertainment. "He was loved by us all and leaves a hole that is impossible to fill as well as a legacy where we will all try and be just a little bit ‘more Dean’. "He will be hugely missed by us all every day," the post added.

Dean was said to have died several weeks ago on July 6, his family have now confirmed. As ITV viewers learned the news, they also shared their thoughts and condolences for the director's family. "May he rest in peace," one person posted, as another shared their shock and commented "omg RIP," upon hearing the sad news.

Dean's former colleague Suzy Lamb went on to praise Dean for being the "hardest-working, most dedicated, caring person" she had ever worked with.
