Over the course of six trials, the “assisted witness” gave crucial evidence against more than 20 defendants including one from the Balkans who masterminded the smuggling of cocaine worth millions of pounds into the UK from Brazil, it can now be reported.
The informant was a cocaine dealer and decided to give evidence after he fell foul of his associates and was kidnapped and tortured over debts.
