A man has undergone a “life-saving” operation after being slashed in the throat with a broken bottle at a Costa del Sol house party.

The unnamed 35-year-old was rushed to hospital in Malaga after the early-hours attack at the party in a luxury villa in the upmarket Marbella neighbourhood of Nagueles.

The incident happened at about 4am on Sunday. The victim is said to have suffered a life-threatening vascular injury. Police and paramedics are understood to have stabilised him at the scene before getting him to an A&E unit.

An investigation into the attack was ongoing on Monday and there have been no immediate reports of any arrests. The street where the incident happened is said to be the same one where a 58-year-old Frenchman was shot dead
