Brian Cox says he was killed off too early on ‘Succession’: “Then you had more of those boring kids”

Succession star Brian Cox has spoken about his character Logan Roy’s death on the show, feeling that while he doesn’t mind being killed off, he felt it was too early.In the fourth and final season of the HBO show, patriarch Logan Roy suddenly collapsed on a private jet, eventually dying.

The death occurred in the third episode of the season, which was a surprise to fans given the show centred around who would take over the media giant’s empire.

There would be seven more episodes in the season, which aired in 2023.Speaking at the Oxford Union on January 19, Cox said that he liked the ending to the show, although he had one reservation. “My only caveat to that, though I think I was happy to be killed off, I thought it was one episode too early because then you had more of those boring kids” he said.On the season as a whole, however, he praised creator Jesse Armstrong for understanding that “clearly less is better than more” and ending the show at the right time.Elsewhere in the talk, he was full of praise for one of the actors who played his offspring, Kieran Culkin.

Cox said he said the A Real Pain star had “that child actors’ enthusiasm, that child actors’ joy, and it would be terrible to curtail that”.He did however mention his growth during the show, saying: “The first series he would freak out if he had three alts (alternative lines), by the last series he was doing five pages of alts… it was wonderful to watch”.Outside of the series, Cox took time to talk about politics, criticising President Donald Trump’s newly appointed special Hollywood ambassadors, Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone.
