A potential return to Celtic for Brendan Rodgers could be derailed by "desperately unfair" fan criticism. That is the view of Hugh Keevins, who reckons majority shareholder Dermot Desmond would face a near-impossible job of selling a second spell at the Scottish Premiership champions to Rodgers amid the next boss search.

The Irishman has split the Parkhead fans as the Hoops search for a successor to Ange Postecoglou, with lingering animosity over the 50-year-old's midnight flit to Leicester City two years ago still being carried by some punters.

Despite the criticism Rodgers has remained one of the favourites to take on the job, with the bookies placing him alongside Manchester City assistant manager Enzo Maresca as top candidates to step into the vacant Parkhead hot seat left by Postecoglou's jump to Tottenham. Sunday Mail columnist Keevins reckons that Rodgers may not be ready for a return to Glasgow after his stormy exit.

Keevins told Celtic powerbroker Desmond that the former Foxes' boss may be put off by the level of anger that remains in Glasgow's east end.
