EXCLUSIVE: Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) has joined The Boat, an Oscar-qualified live-action short from writer-director Luke Morgan, as executive producer.

Based on a true story, the film follows a father who, in discovering that his daughter Dhukia is showing the early symptoms of leprosy, must make a devastating choice.

Dhukia’s story was the inspiration behind the Global Leprosy Eradication Programme, an initiative on the part of The Mission To End Leprosy, which is a global network of organizations looking to help end the oldest known and still existing communicable disease in human history.

The short looks to the Oscars after winning qualifying awards at the Foyle Film Festival and Cork Film Festival. Jake and Luke Morgan produced via their Ireland-based Morgan Brothers.
