Netflix has revealed that Gabriel Leone will star as Ayrton Senna in the upcoming Formula One documentary about the late racer.
The streamer’s documentary mini-series, titled Senna, will portray the story of adventure and triumph of the man who became a Brazilian national hero and conquered the world both on and off the Formula 1 track.
According to a press release, Netflix and producing studio Gullane, have the support of Senna‘s family. Vicente Amorim is the showrunner, who also directs the six-episode series with Julia Rezende.
In a statement, Gabriel opened up about playing Senna in the series. “It is a huge responsibility and also a great honor to be able to represent an icon who inspired so many people throughout his life, showing the world Brazilian sporting talent,” he shared. “Knowing that we will bring this story to millions of people in so many countries, through Netflix, inspires me to see this as one of the great roles of my career.” Senna was a three-time F1 champion who sadly died after an accident in Imola, Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.
