Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds will join up to half a million people volunteering to "give someone a bell" in a bid to tackle loneliness at Christmas.

Organisers say their campaign is needed more than ever after Christmas bubble plans were scrapped for most of the country. Almost half a million people have signed up after Mary Beggs-Reid from Harrogate in North Yorkshire had the idea of ringing a bell on Christmas Eve,or ‘giving someone a bell’ on if they’re likely to be alone.
