Bonhill photographer reveals surprise at being asked to snap TV star's wedding

A Bonhill snapper has revealed his surprise when his famous pal asked him to photograph his wedding.Thomas McDonald photographed the wedding of TV presenter and interior designer John Amabile, who tied the knot with his partner of 19 years, Steven Gormley.The 60 Minute Makeover host’s wedding took place at Hotel Du Vin in Glasgow last month.Thomas told the Lennox Herald he felt “pressure” shooting the wedding, which was conducted by fellow Changing Rooms star and Humanist Celebrant Carol Smillie.The pals met on a joint project at Cameron House where John was dressing the hotel up for Christmas, whilst Thomas was working as a freelance photographer and kept in touch.Thomas recalls that he was a tad surprised, however, when John asked him to photograph his wedding.He said: “This was the first celebrity wedding that I have done, and I did put a bit more pressure on myself not only because I was doing it for someone well known, but also because he is a friend of mine.“It was very intimate, and I was really surprised when he asked me to do it.“As well as doing it with their status in mind, you’re constantly trying to do it well for a good friend.“When he approached me about photographing it, I was chuffed, and I’m glad it went as smoothly as it could have.“I like to shoot things naturally and not do the set-up staged stuff.“Obviously, I had to do some of that stuff, but I do like to do my own thing, and capture the intimate moments when people don’t know you’re there.“With it being an intimate ceremony, there is more emotion because people are more directly involved, and you do get some phenomenal shots.“You don’t want people going away saying ‘that photographer was a nightmare’.“When people don’t notice you, that’s when you
