The 22-year-old arrived at Bolton over the summer and had put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club after moving from Feyenoord.
The defender spent the second half of last season in League One on loan at Wigan Athletic and so is well versed on the contemporary makeup in the third tier of English football.
