Lloyd Isgrove struck in the first half in an entertaining encounter at the Peninsula Stadium as a committed Wanderers performance in the second half in particular helped to secure a clean sheet and three points.
The win, coupled with other results last night in the division, means Bolton are now four points clear of the play-offs and just two points behind league leaders Cheltenham Town, though the Robins have a game in hand over the Trotters.
