That proved to be the difference in the encounter, as Wanderers withstood a Cumbrians side after the break sought an equaliser which never came.
The win ensures Bolton remain in the League Two automatic promotion spots and now have a huge game in prospect against fourth placed Morecambe, who are just a point behind them in the table.
