A tennager's body has been found following an extensive search by the force's marine unit, according to Northumbria Police. Shortly before 4.15pm on Sunday, officers received a report of concern for the welfare of a male who had experienced trouble in the river near Ovingham, Northumberland.
Emergency services were deployed to the area to search for the 13-year-old while some other organisations including HM Coastguard and Mountain Rescue were also on the search.
A spokesperson said on Twitter: "Sadly, a body has since been found in the water. Formal ID has yet to take place but we believe it to be the missing boy.
