A body has been discovered in the search for former England rugby union star Tom Voyce, who was tragically swept out to sea during Storm Darragh.
Although formal identification has not yet been completed, Voyce's next of kin have been informed.Voyce went missing on Sunday after failing to return home from a night out with friends.
Northumbria Police announced on Tuesday that they believe he was carried away by the current of the River Aln while attempting to cross Abberwick Ford in his car.While officers located Voyce's car, extensive searches initially failed to find the 43-year-old.
A large-scale operation was undertaken involving Northumbria Police's Marine Section, the National Police Air Service, drones, dog handlers, volunteers from the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue team, as well as Voyce's family and friends.Originally from Cornwall, Voyce had settled in Alnwick with his wife, Anna, in 2020.
