If you’re feeling hopeless right now after the results of the 2024 presidential election, Suffs is the Broadway musical you need to go see. Blake Lively took to her Instagram Stories just a few days ago to praise the musical, which will be closing in January 2025.
She’s pictured here with the show’s writer and star, Shaina Taub. Featuring an all-female cast, Suffs takes place in the early 1900s as the women’s movement was heating up in America, anchored by the suffragists — “Suffs,” as they call themselves — and their relentless pursuit of the right to vote. “I saw a Broadway show last month that I can’t stop thinking about, Suffs,” Blake began her post on Instagram. Some more conservative, some more liberal, different backgrounds, different experiences in the world. Different ages. Different ways to get to the same goal, which is equality.” “As different as we all are, watching this musical, you feel unity with the entire audience and performers by the end.
You feel love, togetherness and hope,” Blake added. “This one element – UNITY – struck me most because of how divided the world feels, especially on the eve of an election.” She concluded, “I can’t recommend this musical enough.
