Steve Bruce won't be managing Blackpool in their upcoming match against Barnsley this weekend due to the devastating loss of his four-month-old grandson.
Appointed last month as the Tangerines' new head, Bruce will be absent following the passing of the young son of former Millwall striker Matt Smith.
Blackpool shared a touching statement on Friday night, announcing: "The Club can announce that Head Coach Steve Bruce will not be in attendance at tomorrow's fixture against Barnsley due to the tragic passing of his four-month old grandson, Madison." Extending their deepest sympathies, the club added: "Everyone at the football club sends their love to Steve and his family.
We ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with this sudden and unexpected loss in their family." In solidarity, Millwall also conveyed heartfelt words: "Millwall Football Club sends its unconditional love and support to Matt Smith, and his family and friends, following the passing of his four-month old son, Madison.
