American golfer Sam Burns was caught out by the links surface at the Scottish Open - and called in the officials after his shot 'defied gravity.'The big event is underway in North Berwick as golf's biggest names tune up for The Open.
It usually marks an adjustment period for some the American golfers on the PGA Tour as they swap the more modern fields in the States for the old-fashioned links courses in Scotland.
And Burns found himself at a loss to explain what happened during his ninth hole in the third round on Saturday. Burns found the bunker from his tee shot and attempted to play it over the steep face of the sand trap but he was left with his hands on his hips in disbelief after the ball stuck to the side of the bunker.
Sean Zak of GOLF magazine noted on Twitter that the ball 'defied gravity' by staying where it was and Burns wasn't sure what to do next.
