Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said currents on the surface of the lake may have caused the unanchored rental boat to drift away from Rivera and her four-year-old son Josey Hollis, who was wearing a life jacket, while they were swimming.It is likely that she managed to save her son by pulling him out of the water and onto the boat, but was unable to save herself, police said.
Medical examiners ruled the star's death as accidental drowning. The Glee actress got engaged to rapper Big Sean in 2013 but the pair split up the following year.
